Tymon de Laat Bristol Upfest

For Bristol's Upfest in 2024, Tymon de Laat painted "Moon Over Matalán" on the side of a large building in Bedminster. The artwork is a portrait is a native of the Americas. The artist enjoys painting people who can inspire and interest in the wider world. The title of the piece takes its name from Santiago Matatlán in Mexico, the mezcal (alcoholic drink made of agave) capitol of the world. The artwork showcases the production of the plant and drink.

Katie Scott Paints Troll for Bristol Upfest 2024

Katie Scott is a street artist based in Manchester, and she often creates large scale murals on walls. Her work focuses on nature and a series of vintage toys, such as Barbie. In the mural painted for Bristol Upfest 2024, she painted a red-haired troll on a yellow background. Her work is often bright with colours, and featuring the toys brings back memories of childhood. The artwork is located in Bedminster.

Street Art by Angus in Bristol

Mosaic artist Angus is based in Bristol and creates street art using tiles. Popular culture, video games, and cartoons often feature in the artist's work. He has painted a lot for Bristol Upfest, and I've photographed a couple of the pieces blow in the past. I was in Bristol this summer and saw more of his work with video games being featured. The pieces below are in Bedminster, which is the artistic side of the city and hosts Upfest. Recently, the artist has also been working on th sculpture trails for WildInArt, which I also enjoy.

There are a couple of items I discovered on Christmas Steps and College Green in Bristol that may also be Angus, but I think it may be a different artist. It's not Invader. If you know who they are by, let me know.

Angry Dan Paints for Bristol Upfest 2024

Street artist and poet Angry Dan first hit the streets at the end of the 2010s with a series of poetic street art murals around east London. One of the artist's most recent works was for Bristol Upfest in 2024 with an octopus and facts about the creature. The artwork is located on Lime Street in the Bedminster area of Bristol. Angry Dan uses an illustration style that is whimsical and colourful along with the text with the "poem".

Street Art by Curtis Hytton on Whitecross Street 2024

Street artist Curtis Hytton painted the large wall at Whitecross Street for Whitecross Street Party in 2024. Th UK-based artist has painted across the world, and his work normally features animals and birds that seem to be made of flowers. The idea of nature - wildlife and floral - brings a little bit of colour to the streets in this built-up part of London.

Liam Bononi Street Art in Swindon

Brazilian-born street artist Liam Bononi paints realistic artwork with expression and energy, and some of his most recent work includes glassware. The skill in painting glassware is challenging, and I find his style of work impressive. The artist painted in Bristol in 2024 and in Swindon later the same year. The work is titled "Lenses" and is of a woman holding up a glass jar. The artist bought the jar from a charity shop and was inspired by the way the sun shines through the glass and bends the light onto the wall.

Vibrance 2026, City of London

For two days at the end of January, the City of London hosted a new light and sound exhibition known as "Vibrance". A few different spots in the City became a canvas for the light and sound installations, and it was a busy evening with many out in the dark January evening to see the displays. The installations took place around the London Wall, Guildhall, and Barbican areas.

Salters' Garden: This little garden forming part of the old London wall and courtyard with hedges became a soundscape with a couple of projections of light onto the wall. The soundscape led viewers into this little area and past a lit-up stone vessel with its shadow projected onto the old Roman wall.

The Guildhall became a canvas for a light show with different types of imagery projected onto the building and electronic music playing. This was also combined with opera music and a live opera singer who came outside of the building to sing at various points. The display and performance was impressive.

Milton Court has a projection of different paintings created by artists. The paintings featured aspects of London.

St. Alphage London Wall and Garden: This ruin of an archway has projections of the original brickwork placed onto it, and these shift with the movement of people in the area.

St. Giles Cripplegate is located next to the Barbican complex, and it uses virtual reality technology to project changing patterns, lights, and colours throughout the building's interior.

I enjoyed visiting these installations, although I struggled to find St. Giles, and it was busy with a long line to enter a couple of the installations.

Ant Carver Street Art in Bristol

Ant Carver is a London-based street artist whose work I first started to see around London in 2016. In 2022 and in 2024, the artist went to Bristol to paint for Upfest. The first artwork was painted in 2022 and has faded slightly. It is located in Bedminster. "Love Me/Love Me Not" is from a series by the artist with the subject of loss. The subject is pulling apart a rose petal.

antcarver-bristol1.jpg

In 2024, the artist experimented with some new styles. The below work is painted in Bedminster and features a new style from the artist in painting intense imagery that contrasts.

antcarver-bristol2.jpg

I have also included one of the original artworks from the artist from around 2016 or 2017, and the style has evolved; it is good to see how far the artist has come with style and execution of the work.

My Dog Sighs in Kingston

When I visited Kingston last summer, I was happy to see a couple of areas of scaffolding with street art on them. On one of the walls, I discovered work by My Dog Sighs, a British-based street artist who is based near to Portsmouth and who has painted over the country realistic and colourful looking eyes with the reflection of the area projected into the pupils. The works are located in the Kingston area of London near to the river.
