I visited my home town and down the road from my parents is Killing Tree Winery. The winery opened its doors a few years ago, but this was my first visit. They often put on live music, and their breakfasts are also popular. I visited in the late afternoon and had a late lunch with a wine tasting and selected the wines. The grapes are not grown here, but the wine is produced and contains "country and western" type names, and even the name of the winery sounds inspired by native Americans, including the name of the villages here which were Shawnee and Delaware tribes.
Some of the names of the wines included "Bless Your Heart", "High Horse", "Bucket of Lead", "Damn Straight", "Gosh Dang", "Jerry Rigged", "Ammunition", "Over Yonder", and "Double Barrel". I had a flight of four tastings. I had "High Cotton", "Goodness Gracious", "Bird Shot", and "Over Yonder". I also ordered a wine slushie to have with the meal.
I also ordered some food. I ordered the mozzarella sticks and a pizza with pineapple and onions. The food was very good. I was not keen on any of the wines that I tried.
There is a lot of room in the venue with plenty of outdoor seating for when the weather warms up and isn't wet and an upstairs and seating downstairs. I did not find the staff friendly, which was a shame as a place like this should have friendly staff.
I would return for the food, and listening to some live music would have also been good fun. I hope that they sort out the staff, and hopefully they will improve the wines too.
