Druridge Bay, near Morpeth in Northumberland, is a quiet place with a sandy beach and sand dunes. It borders a country park nature reserve and has the feeling of being a secluded beach. On the last day of my Northumberland holiday in late-July, the sun was actually out. We have not had a lot of sunshine this year, and the previous few days were cloudy or wet, so seeing the sun come out in the late afternoon on the last day of the holiday, we had a quick walk down to the beach.
There is parking down a narrow dirt road, and I imagine it does get busy earlier in the day. However, it was virtually empty when I visited. The access to the beach was over a few sand dunes only about a hundred yards.
This is the little inlet of water called Dunbar Burn, which travels inland and forms pools at the nature reserve on the opposite side of the road. I did not visit the nature reserve. The pools are tidal with the tide appearing to come in or already be in during my visit.
There are literally miles of beautiful secluded beach here. As it had been a wash-out summer so far and I'd booked a full itenerary of attractions (since we had to book everything well in advance), I did not have any outfits for sitting in the sand or visiting the water, so it was only a short trip. Next time, I should be more prepared!
If blessed with a nice day and in the area, this is a must-visit beach.
