Bowness-on-Solway is the end of Hadrian's wall, and those walking the Hadrian's Wall path will either start their journey here or end their journey here. For me, this marks the end of the wall because the Romans approached from the east (Newcastle).
Along the Solway is a little Roman-styled hut that looks over the beach. Inside the hut is a wealth of information about the wildlife and history of this area. There is a bench and several small dedications to others. The floor of the hut contains a mosaic design of birds.
For those completing the walk, one of the few Hadrian's Wall passport stamps can be found inside the hut. At the time of writing, the Sand's Centre in Carlisle is under renovations (I went to use it the day before, and there's nothing online about the renovations or the stamp not being accessible), so the stamp for it is located here.
I found this to be a peaceful place with expansive views over the Solway.
